Becca is salon’s 25th apprentice

A Shrewsbury business has reached an important apprenticeship milestone.

Toni & Guy Shrewsbury, a franchise owned by Gavin Pulham, has announced that the salon’s 25th apprentice has just emerged with flying colours from the group’s training programme.

Becca Paulette completed a highly-regarded six-week training programme run by Toni & Guy in London, finishing as the top student for her course. The 20-year-old, who lives in Baschurch, is now a qualified colour technician.

The intensive training of apprentices such as Becca is part of business’s investment in its future.

“We always aim to ensure that new generations of creative stylists and colourists ascend through the ranks,” explained Gavin Pulham, proprietor of Toni & Guy in Castle Street, Shrewsbury.

“Becca is our 25th apprentice to complete a very gruelling training programme and she is now growing in confidence and ability all the time as fully-fledged senior colourist.

“We wish her the very best for the future - it is great to see local young people develop from apprentices into highly skilled professional hairdressers.”

All the salon’s trainees spend two and a half years with qualified staff in the salon learning Toni & Guy hairdressing techniques and NVQ skills to Level II.

Throughout this time they are regularly sent to one of the group’s academies for assessment and once their NVQ is sucssesfully completed they attend the Manchester or London Academy for six weeks of final intensive training and testing.

Gavin added: “Since moving into the town 13 years ago we have trained 25 youngsters, most of whom are still with us and six of whom now own and run their own successful salons. All are highly qualified with diplomas and awards in every aspect of our trade.

“Hundreds of young people have also been on work experience placements with us, giving them a valuable insight in our industry, and many of whom we have gone on to employ.”
