5 Ways to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle for Your Child

In today’s modern world all of us as parents have to juggle a multitude of tasks and there are numerous demands made on our time every day. By following these 5 tips you can ensure your kids, and you, remain healthy and happy.

Watch What They Eat

Diet is vitally important to keep your child healthy. They are growing literally overnight so their bodies need great nutrition to give them plenty of energy.

Make sure that your kids get a wide variety of foods including: protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. For a wide variety of healthy protein The Good Grub People are worth a look, even better is the fact that you can shop online and get it delivered straight to your door, so it saves time too.

Kids also need treats though, so don’t obsess too much and let them have the odd fast food meal or some sweets. The best rule of thumb is the 80/20 rule, which holds for most things in life. If you eat well 80 percent of the time, you can treat yourself for the other fifth. It keeps kids healthy and lets them have some fun too.

Encourage Exercise

A child gains strength, co-ordination and agility through exercise, so try to encourage them to take part in a sporting activity, whether that be a team sport, swimming or dancing.

Outdoor play is a big benefit too, however it’s harder to achieve when we all need to be much more safety conscious than years ago. Try to organise some play dates with other Mums and Dads, so you can all meet in the park and supervise, maybe over a glass of wine, while the kids run wild and burn off some of that excess energy.

Limit Gadgets

We all, adults and children alike, spend too many hours every week looking at screens, whether that’s the TV, our laptop, a console or a mobile. It’s going to be very difficult to eradicate many of these things completely but try to find a balance, whereby you have a day a week screen free or maybe a few hours every day. Difficult as it is, we as parents need to set a good example here so that the kids follow suit.

Let Them Get Bored

As parents it’s tempting to think we have to schedule every hour of our kids’ days but boredom can actually lead to creativity. An hour or two daydreaming or filled with painting, writing or some creative play, is time well spent and it is very beneficial for a child’s development.

Have Lots of Fun

Those are the first four tips for achieving a healthy lifestyle for your child and last, but definitely not least, is the recommendation to try to pack as much fun into every day as possible. If you can’t spend hours every day playing, reading and making too much noise when you are a child, then when can you?
