As one of the least populated counties in the UK, Shropshire might seem like a place that has few skate parks for youth to frequent. Actually, that isn’t the case at all and there are awesome skate parks in or at least near the county town of Shrewsbury in Shropshire. Whether you are looking for an indoor or outdoor skate, there are a number of choices that won’t require a great deal of travelling. You might want to consider the following popular options.
Not only can you skate to your heart’s content, but on Tuesdays between the hours of 6pm and 8pm there is an activity/coaching session which is free of charge. You don’t need to book a slot in this session and for anyone new to riding, this is a great opportunity to be introduced to the sport. The only thing you will need to do is make absolutely certain you have all the necessary gear and arrive prepared to learn. You can find all the gear you’ll need on www.skates.co.uk.
In December, 2014 a new skate park project opened in Bridgnorth. In conjunction with the town council and Councillor Edward Marshall, the park was planned and constructed. The park had scheduled a Bridgnorth Skate Jam in late August of 2015 but inclement weather prompted the cancellation of this event. Sponsors were unhappy for this to have happened as there was to have been an exhibition demonstrating various levels of skill and equipment available for different aspects of the sport. Skateboarders from around the country, and many from abroad, were to have been at the event but in the future there may be another one scheduled so it is advisable to keep an eye on this awesome new park.
As a location and website managed by the Shropshire Community Leisure Trust, the Shrewsbury Sports Village Mini-Ramp is another location just recently opened to the public. It is amazing just how many different ramps and tracks are available to be ridden and this is one both the county and the town are very proud of. With so many young people looking to fill their time with something fun, this is a way to provide a wholesome activity and keep our kids off the streets at times when they are looking for something to do.
No matter where you go in the UK there are amazing skate parks to take advantage of. Whether free to the public or a site that you pay for time, there really are a number of exciting skate parks like the one at the Flaxivity Centre to visit each and every weekend and daily throughout the summer. So when you think there is nothing to do in a county as sparsely populated as Shropshire, it’s time to think again and take up a new sport. Skateboarding is currently one of the most popular activities for youth around the world and one you’ll surely love.
