The Wightman Theatre Company presents Patrick Garland’s Brief Lives

Tickets are now on sale for The Wightman Theatre Company’s (TWTC) forthcoming production of Brief Lives by Patrick Garland.

The production is the second of three professional plays to be staged at the Shrewsbury based theatre between now and the end of June and runs from Tuesday 01 to Friday 11 May.

Directed by Beverly Baker, Brief Lives is a one-man play featuring John Aubrey, a 17th-century Englishman who met and kept accounts of many of the famous men of his day, including René Descartes, Thomas Hobbes and Christopher Wren.

Delivered in a recreation of his 17th century sitting room, Aubrey recounts his garrulous, often humorous, yet pointless but remarkably descriptive stories of human frailty, which are almost feeble in their honesty. The play has been described as ‘a lively, if not necessarily accurate, account of eccentricities and anecdotes that still resonate today’.

Brief Lives premiered in 1967 and became one of the most successful one person shows in history, most notably performed by Roy Dotrice. TWTC’s production features local actor Adrian Monahan who has worked widely in theatre, television and radio.
