Young Enterprise Shropshire Tenner Challenge !

About Tenner

The Tenner Challenge is for young people to get a taste of what being an entrepreneur is like.  It enables them to focus on a business idea and see what they can do with it.  It allows them to be risk takers in the business field and use real money to make a difference.  Schools across the nation can participate, making it a great national competition.

How it works
Students are given £10 from the Tenner Bank on the 1st May.  They use this start up capital to set the wheels in motion to run their business.  They can work alone or in a group.  They have the whole month to make as much profit as they can from the initial £10 and are challenged to make a difference and give back to society.  There are online resources to help teachers and students.  Students complete an online logbook to keep track of what they are doing and how they are feeling.

At the end of the month, finances are tallied up, loans repaid and donations given.  This means that the £10 loan is repaid + a suggested £1 to the Tenner Bank so more students can participate next year in the Challenge.  Students decide what to do with the extra profits – spend on a day out, buy the latest trainers, save for a rainy day or donate to charity to help others.

The only rules are:  you cannot use your £10 loan to gamble, take part in illegal activities, be fraudulent and importantly, if the teacher says NO, so do we!

Make a difference
Giving some or even all of your profits to charity is not the only way businesses can make a difference.  Some businesses are set up as a Social Enterprise with a clear view of having a social impact.

If your idea for Tenner could make a positive change in your area or transforms your world then your idea could be a social enterprise.

That makes you a social entrepreneur!

A social entrepreneur is someone who sets up a business or project which is driven by a social cause. It can be a great way to take on a challenge in your area, and you can make money at the same time. This money could then be profit, or you could put it back into finding even more ways to try and solve the issue.

Live UnLtd is working in partnership with Young Enterprise and is available to support people aged 11-21 who want to change their world for the better. Watch the video to see what Live UnLtd does.

History of Tenner
Make your Mark, Tenner Tycoon, Make your Mark with a Tenner and now simply Tenner.  Different names, same idea!  We lend you £10 and you run a business for a month and try to make a profit and a difference.

Enterprise UK  founded Make Your Mark with a Tenner in 2007 and ran successful challenges each year. In 2011 the last Tenner Campaign under Enterprise UK was run. Due to Enterprise UK winding down there was an opportunity for Young Enterprise to own and lead this great competition!

In November 2012, it was finally confirmed, after a long process of tender and due diligence, that Young Enterprise, the UK's largest enterprise education charity, would be running Tenner and since then, the Tenner Team has been busy making the Tenner Challenge happen.

We hope you like the new look and feel of Tenner.

Young Enterprise Shropshire

50th Anniversary Celebration of Achievement Event

Wed 15th May 2013 at the Shropshire County & West Mid Showground, Berwick Rd, Shrewsbury, SY1 2PF

From September each year up to 500 students in Shropshire, aged between 15 and 19 take part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme. The students join into groups and each team establishes a business. The companies trade throughout the academic year and this event is the culmination of the students hard work and a celebration of their achievements.
The event is always a very inspirational evening. Attending on the night will be our top companies who are competing to represent Shropshire in the West Midlands Finals in June.
As an additional pull this year we are delighted to be in our 50th of operation in the UK and are aiming for a flagship evening to celebrate this milestone. 50 tables for 50 years!
Prior to the Celebration of Achievement Dinner, sponsors and guests have the opportunity to meet with students at a mini trade fair. Then, following a three-course meal, there will be a series of live presentations showcasing the company programme journey for 2012/2013. Several awards, sponsored by local businesses, are presented throughout the evening along with live presentations, guest speakers and a full 3 course meal.
The awards evening is attended by many Shropshire businesses making this an ideal business to business marketing opportunity.
Our sponsors have an opportunity to see the real benefits of their investment in helping the future of our local entrepreneurs.
