New textile recycler for Shropshire

We're delighted to be working with a local (Wolverhampton-based) family firm Wilcox to help keep old clothes and textiles out of landfill.

You might recently have noticed a change as new containers have been installed at dozens of our recycling sites around the county and their dedicated team of local staff are now sub-contracted to pick up hundreds of tonnes of textiles from our sites each year.

All the material gets taken back to their state of the art (robot controlled) local unit for sorting into different grades for re-use and recycling.  The vast majority of clothing gets re-used through a network of local and global second hand clothes markets but even the really low grade material like old towels and rags can still be recycled, being shredded down to make industrial cleaning cloths and material for automotive sound proofing.

You can use the containers to recycle the following materials: -

  • All clothes
  • Socks and shoes
  • Boots, wellies and slippers
  • Hats, scarves, gloves
  • Towels, curtains, tea towels
  • Clean underwear
  • Handbags and belts
  • Bed linen, blankets and pillowcases
  • Off cuts, fabric, wool, tapestries, rags

Don’t worry if your textiles are a bit moth eaten or tired, we want all your textiles, they’re precious to us.  The key thing is that is clean and dry so they don't contaminate the good quality wearable items.  By recycling textiles you can help support local jobs as well as protecting the environment.
