Green Award for Ellesmere

The Mere at Ellesmere has officially unveiled their new Green Flag to celebrate being awarded the prestigious status.

The Green Flag Award was first launched in 1996 to recognise and reward the best green spaces in the country and The Mere met all the criteria for the honour. Pictured above members of the Mere Advisory Board, Friends of The Mere, Shropshire Cllr Ann Hartley, Shropshire Cllr Steve Davenport, the Town Mayor and local Beavers celebrated the environmental achievement together.

The Mere, which attracts around quarter of a million visitors a year, was named amongst 1,476 parks, cemeteries, universities, shopping centres and community gardens that have met the high standard needed to receive the Award.  In Shropshire, Severn Valley Country Park at Highley and Alveley has also received the award.
