Don't bin your tea bags

Residents in Shrewsbury consume an astonishing 275,000 cups of tea every single day!  Our thirst for a cuppa comes with a price though - it creates a mountain of more than 1,000 tonnes of waste tea bags every year!  By weight thats 5% of all the rubbish collected from the town!

But it doesnt have to result in full bins and filling up landfill sites - tea bags can simply be composted at home.  You can get yourself a discounted home compost bin from and do something useful with your tea bags instead.

According to waste experts WRAP, tea bags are the single largest element of unavoidable food waste produced in our homes, above items such as bones, cores, fruit peel and onion skins, accounting for more than 400,000 tonnes of household waste every year across the UK.

With the majority of the us drinking tea every day and 98% of tea drinkers now using tea bags, waste tea bags clearly arent going to go away.  But the problem of most teabags still ending up in the household rubbish simply cannot go on.  So the message is simple, dont bin them, get yourself a home compost bin and recycle your tea-bags instead and you will make a huge difference to the amount of rubbish which we all end up paying for.
