Summer holiday workshops for children

The summer holidays are rapidly approaching in just a few weeks and the Hive in Shrewsbury has a trio of creative workshops to help keep young people engaged - with the chance to have fun and develop new artistic skills. There will be a theatre summer-school, a film-making master-class and also the much anticipated return of stop-frame animation too!

'Here to Save the Universe' is the name and theme of this year's summer-school which will once again be delivered by established group Shrewsbury Youth Theatre. Young people will devise a brand new theatre piece and develop their performance skills, in addition to gaining knowledge of everything that goes into producing a show behind-the-scenes as well. The workshop will run from Wednesday August 14 through until Friday August 16, taking place between 10am and 4pm each day, Places cost £45 and they are destined to be snapped-up quickly.

The following workshop will kick-start a week dedicated to media. A two-day film-making master-class aimed at ages 8-13 will take place on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 August, Participants will acquire hands-on experience in all stages of film production; learning about story development and planning. They will film on location and have an insight into editing final footage. Place for the workshops, taking place between 10am and 3:30pm on both days, cost only £40.

Finally, there will be an animation workshop on Thursday August 29, where young people will be able to explore stop-frame animation techniques, creating colourful characters and sets. Places cost £20 and the workshop is for ages 8-13.

Habib Malik-Mansell from the Hive said "This summer holiday we have three fantastic workshops to choose from; and as ever, places are already selling for all three events - so I therefore urge people to book places before it's too late!" He added "We're pleased to be delivering the summer-school again in association with Shrewsbury Youth Theatre who are based at the centre. Our previous two-day film workshop also proved exceptionally popular with parents and children alike."
