2021 – an opportunity to see the world?

The Covid-19 virus has brought international travel to a standstill this year with many countries introducing curfews and travel restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. Some predicted a  travel industry in freefall which may not recover, however others are far more optimistic about the future of travel, and see 2021 as a year full of new adventures and opportunities.

Shaun Screen, an independent travel expert, opened his travel consultancy The Travel Table in the Market Hall back in March just weeks before the global coronavirus pandemic knocked the travel industry for six. Spending the majority of time dealing with cancellations and securing refunds would make most people very worried about the future, however positive-by-nature Shaun is convinced that 2021 will be a bumper year for adventure travel as people look to satisfy their hunger to see the world after a year of turmoil.

Shaun told us: ”2020 has been the most challenging year of my career and the effect on the whole travel industry has been terrible. I’d only opened The Travel Table six weeks before lockdown and I had no idea what impact the pandemic was going to have on my business. However, I’m confident that we’ll get through this, and time spent in lockdown has definitely whetted the appetite for international travel and adventure holidays.

“There is a real buzz about adventure and solo travel across the travel industry and this is reflected in the types of holidays on offer and enquires I’ve had from customers. By way of an example, one of our latest packages is a Mount Everest base camp trek in September 2021 which I’m looking at doing myself. In fact, would be great to get a local group of adventurers together so we can train and prepare together. I’ve organised this with a great adventure holiday supplier with a low deposit”.

"Mindful of customer concerns, most holiday companies are offering flexible booking conditions allowing therm to change dates and receive refunds hassle-free. I'm already seeing companies scaling back their tours for next year, so I'm encouraging my clients to lock in their travel plans as soon as possible.”

Independent travel agents such as The Travel Table, offer a truly tailor-made service for the more adventurous traveller, with no ties to any particular holiday or tour operator. A passionate traveller himself, Shaun brings personal knowledge and experience to many of the trips he organises.

The Travel Table is part of The Travel Network Group which gives customers the same peace of mind of full financial protection that they would get at a traditional high street travel agency.
