WHAT'S ON: Comedienne and novelist Helen Lederer in Shrewsbury on 14th March

Helen Lederer, best known for her role as dippy Catriona in Absolutely Fabulous, as well as creating the 'Girl at the Bar' in Naked Video, will be appearing at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on Saturday 14th March.

BBC Radio Shropshire presenter Clare Ashford will be interviewing Helen about her new novel ‘Losing It’, the role of chunky KitKats, writing, losing weight… and, well, all sorts of things.

Together Lederer and Ashford will chew the fat about: the agonising  80’s and naughty 90’s of comedy; they will unravel what made TV  programmes funny; how did stand-up comedy  stand up to hecklers; and what really occurs on the set of AB FAB. There will be questions from the audience as well as a fun personality exploration as Helen and Clare tackle what is funny and how come they are still doing it at their age. With reminders of the past, such as photos and embarrassing poems, Clare Ashford will tease out just what happened to Lederer in the last 30 years …

‘Losing It’, Lederer’s first novel (published by Pan Macmillan) is the hilarious story of Millie, agony aunt for ‘The Good Woman Magazine’. In debt, divorced and desperate, she’s about to lose her house. Worse, she has no money, a best friend with a better sex life than her, a daughter in Papua New Guinea and too much weight in places she really doesn’t want.

Can a middle aged woman really have it all? A hilarious, brutally honest exploration of a woman who still feels 30 but can't deny the odd stray grey …

The Times described ‘Losing it’ as ‘Funny and sharp and often horribly true’.  And Woman and Home picked it for this months ' Great Reads', describing it as 'Funny and touching'.

‘An Audience with Helen Lederer’ is a chance to meet Helen as she shares a tongue in cheek journey around her brush with show business, literati and reality TV as well as an exclusive reveal of her debut novel ‘Losing It’.

Details: 730pm, Saturday 14th March, Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury.
