Wem Cricket Club are bowled over by commemorative bench

Severnside Housing and Wem Rural Parish Council recently presented Wem Cricket Club with a commemorative bench to say thank you for their help and support during the building of new affordable homes in Round Meadow, Wem.

George Sage, President of Wem Cricket Club said “We would like to thank Severnside and Wem Rural Parish Council for the lovely new bench, which our members will really enjoy using when the new season starts.  I would also like to extend a warm welcome to the new residents at Round Meadow and invite them to come along and join Wem Cricket Club.”

The cricket club provided car parking and a venue for local residents to meet during the construction of the 23 new affordable homes, developed in partnership by Severnside Housing and Wem Rural Parish Council, to meet local housing need.

Peter Donovan, Resources Director at Severnside Housing said “Wem Cricket Club played a vital community role during the construction of Severnside’s new homes.  They have also been extremely welcoming to our residents at Round Meadow, so the bench is a small token of our thanks.”

Les Staines, Vice-Chair at Wem Rural Parish Council added “The bench was given in recognition for the support given by Wem Cricket Club during the development of Round Meadow. Use of their car park reduced congestion in the area, and their club facilities were much appreciated as a venue for events in connection with the project. The Parish Council hopes that the link between Round Meadow and Wem Cricket Club will continue, and that the presence of the bench will be a reminder of this.”
