Wace Morgan's Christmas donations to charity

A Shropshire legal firm has made donations of each of £500 to three local charities to round off a year of fund raising activities and sponsorships.

Wace Morgan Solicitors has presented the money to the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, the Shropshire branch of the armed forces charity SSAFA and Shropshire Rural Support.

Diana Packwood, managing director of Wace Morgan, which has offices in Shrewsbury and Newtown, said that the gifts were part of the firm’s commitment to supporting local good causes.

“The donations mean that in total we will have handed over around £4,000 this year to charities and worthwhile organisations in Shropshire and mid Wales during 2018,” she said.

Throughout the year the firm has provided a range of sponsorship packages which have helped events to be, including two held on the River Severn in Shrewsbury - the Pengwern Regatta and Dragon Boat Race for Severn Hospice.

It has also provided backing for food and drink occasions, such as the Campaign for Real Ale’s Shrewsbury Beer Festival and Self Help Africa’s Shrewsbury Secret Supper.

Musical and arts events, including the Gregynog Young Musicians charity concert, a performance by the Bishop’s Castle Orchestra for the Royal British Legion, Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society’s performance of ‘Priscilla Queen of the Desert’ at Theatre Severn, Mad Cow Productions’ ‘The Full Monty’ and ‘Blithe Spirit’ and the Shrewsbury Festival of Literature were supported.

In addition the firm contributed to a new defibrillator to be installed in Market Street, Newtown, by the Community Heartbeat Trust and there were more fund raising activities by staff during their annual office ‘charity week’ in December, including a bake off and donations of gifts and products for Refuge Shropshire and Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children
