Volunteers sought by Shrewsbury-based charity

A Shrewsbury-based charity that helps and supports people in crisis is now on the look-out for new volunteers. Van drivers and shop workers are at the top of the ‘wish list’ for the county branch of Relate, the counselling and support charity. The organisation is based at Swan Hill Court in Shrewsbury and operates all across Shropshire. While, nationwide, Relate’s specially-trained counsellors and therapists help more than a million people each year, the organisation “simply could not function without its volunteer force,” said Sandie Dent, Shropshire and North Staffordshire Relate’s Centre Manager.

“We really need to urgently find more volunteers, including van drivers and shop workers, although we would also be delighted to hear from anyone who’d like to help in other ways,” said Sandie. Relate operates shops in Shrewsbury, Wellington, Church Stretton, Wem, Oswestry, Ellesmere and Market Drayton. “Apart from doing something really worthwhile and really satisfying, our volunteers enjoy the experience of working with us,” said Sandie.

“Some see volunteering as an opportunity to gain valuable experience, some see it as a stepping stone to other things, some just want to ‘give something back to society’ – and of course we are always happy to help and advise along the way, and to give successful volunteers a useful reference should they eventually wish to move on.”
