Vegan Hub set to open in Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury’s first 100% vegan grocery, gift and clothing shop will be opening in April. Michelle D’Arcy Jewell and Debbie Russell-Williams, who also run vegan events in Shropshire under their company name The Two Vegans, will be opening their shop in The Parade Shopping Centre in Shrewsbury.

Michelle and Debbie first met when Debbie moved to Shrewsbury and started to volunteer for Shropshire Veggies and Vegans, which Michelle has run for 7 years. Between them they have been vegan for 30 years.

Debbie says: “When I first met Michelle I had suffered from OCD for many years and at one point it was so bad that I could hardly leave my flat for three years. Michelle really supported and encouraged me and as my confidence grew, I started to promote a few small vegan fairs in Telford. I then helped Michelle with Shrewsbury Vegan Fairs and now we run twice yearly fairs in Shrewsbury. We have been running vegan events together for a few years now and we felt that our next step was to open a fully vegan shop.”

Michelle says: “We are really excited to be opening the shop, which will be called The Vegan Hub.  We will be selling lots of fabulous vegan products, with as many as possible sourced locally. We want The Vegan Hub to be the go-to place in Shrewsbury for vegans to get a wealth of knowledge and advice as well as vegan products.”

Debbie and Michelle have set up a Crowdfunder online to help with the start-up costs of their venture. Michelle says “We need to completely fit out the whole shop and then fill it with amazing products. We have some fantastic rewards for each donation. We are aware that not everyone is in a financial position to be able to support us, but even the smallest donation can really help, and if that isn’t possible we are asking people to share the Crowdfunder as far as possible.”
