Unique way to visit Shropshire County Show

Visitors will be able to catch a ferry to this year’s Shropshire County Show in what is believed to be one of the only arrangements of its type in the country.

The ferry will sail from the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury, along the River Severn, to a special river gate with direct access to the showground.

The service, run by the Sabrina Boat team, will cost £1 per person, which is refundable when buying a ticket to the show on the gate.

Shropshire County Show takes place at the West Mid Showground on Saturday (May 28) and the ferry will run from 8am to 6pm, with access from Drinkwater Street in Frankwell or The Mount at its junction with Hafren Road.

Due to the terrain, it is for pedestrians only and unsuitable for disabled access.

Neale Sadler, chairman of Shropshire County Show, said: “We don’t know of any other agricultural show in the country which has its own ferry, so we are delighted to be able to offer this service to our visitors.

“It’s a unique way to arrive at the show and is a great way of avoiding any traffic queues. You could even catch the Park and Ride from Oxon to Frankwell roundabout and then walk up to the ferry.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the team at the Sabrina Boat who are using their picnic boat as the ferry.”

Thousands of people are expected to descend on the showground in Shrewsbury on Saturday for the event, which is a traditional agricultural show with plenty of family entertainment taking place all day.

Show organisers say they have made an effort to provide as many free activities as possible this year to make sure people get the maximum value for money for their entry fee.

Children aged 13 and under are free with a paying adult, and junior tickets are £3 in advance or £5 on the gate.

Adult tickets are £13 in advance or £15 on the gate, and a family ticket for two adults and two juniors is £30 in advance or £35 on the gate.
