Telford Centre shortlisted for award

Shropshire largest shopping centre is asking local people to help it triumph over Birmingham opposition to be named the Best Midlands Retail Shopping Centre.

County shoppers can vote for Telford Shopping Centre in the What’s On Live Reader Awards, to see off competition from the likes of Birmingham’s Bullring and the Merry Hill centre.

Katie Broome, marketing manager for Telford Shopping Centre, said: “We have one of the UK’s largest covered shopping centres and it is fabulous to see Telford getting the recognition it deserves by appearing on this shortlist.

“We hope that local people will get behind us and send a message out across the region that Telford is, by far, the best retail shopping centre in the Midlands.”

Boasting anchor stores House of Fraser, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and Boots, Telford offers more than 160 stores across more than 1 million sq ft. of malls. Other major tenants include H&M, Zara, New Look, Topshop/Topman, Next, Lush, Monsoon, River Island and JD Sports.

Work is currently under way to add more retail and leisure space to Telford Centre, with the Southern Quarter building due to open this Spring, bringing TGI Friday, Prezzo and The Handmade Burger Co to the town.

The exciting project will also see the existing out-of-date bus station replaced with a bright new facility that offers a more welcome, safer environment.

Other Shropshire businesses and attractions shortlisted for the What’s On Live awards include The Hive, Theatre Severn and the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury, Club Crush and Pussycats in Telford and The Place, Oakengates.
