Taxi firm's prize bonanza

A Shropshire taxi firm’s customers are enjoying a prizes bonanza worth hundreds of pounds as the company says thanks for backing a new service.

The prize draw was put together by Go Carz, the county’s largest private hire firm, and celebrates the successful launch of a new app by the company aimed at improving service.

The app makes it more convenient for customers to use the firm and even does away with the need to carry cash on a night out - with pre-recorded details meaning journeys can be automatically charged to a credit or bank card.

Carl Wilday, managing director at Go Carz, said the company wanted to reward those who had signed up to the scheme and came up with the idea of the prize draw.

“The new app has proved extremely popular and all our customers had to do to be included in the draw was to share and tag a friend,” he said.

“We were able to get some extremely good prizes for the draw.

“One customer, Ella Wellings, won a 43-inch TV, Carl Jones won two tickets to a Shrewsbury Town football match and Kathryn Holmes won a family ticket to Cadbury World.”

Other prizes included a kids Fire Kindle, a best-sellers book bundle and a chocolate bonanza.

There was a case of summer fruits wine, case of lager, Skullcandy headphones, the new Harry Potter book, an Etch A Sketch and Play-Doh factory. Prizes were allocated in order of draw.

Carl added: “The new app is another way in which we are trying to make our service to the customer easier and more efficient and a big advantage is being able to enter your card details when registering, doing away with the need to carry cash with you.

“This service offers fast booking and can save your favourite addresses.

“You can also track your booked car and we have just the one app for all our offices.”

The app means people can book their taxi via iPhone or android smartphone using a postcode, point of interest, street name or location using the device’s GPS.

It can also save favourite or recent pick-up points, making it quick and handy.

More than a third of all Go Carz bookings are now handled via the app or website. This is something to firm is keen to increase.

Go Carz now employs 900 drivers across the Midlands and two years ago invested £200,000 in a state-of-the-art call centre in Shrewsbury.

The company currently has a recruitment drive on for more call centre operators.

Increasing level of demand is at an all-time high and Go Carz is looking for people to cover shifts, particularly at nights or weekends.

It is now taking more than 100,000 phone calls and carrying out about 75,000 journeys a week across Shropshire and the West Midlands.
