SSFC offers an alternative Easter gift for rock opera fans

Forget chocolate, Shrewsbury Sixth Form College are offering local audiences a taste of Argentina this Easter time.

SSFC's English Bridge Campus is the venue for performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Time Rice's hit musical 'EVITA' from Wednesday 23rd to Saturday 26th March.

SSFC’s Music and Dramatic Arts Manager, David Place was keen to point out the challenges that the students face for this type of show. 'It's a Rock Opera so the dialogue is very limited. Our rehearsals are a balance of several disciplines which keeps all of us literally on our toes. This is an enrichment opportunity for our students so they manage their commitment to rehearsals alongside their studies. They have been working flat out in the last few months and I can't wait to show everyone our take on 'EVITA''

This is only the second performance that the MaDA Department at SSFC have staged at the English Bridge campus. After the success of 'Cabaret' last year, local Director and Playwright Vicki Duckett was invited back to direct this years Rock Opera. 'We had so much fun with 'Cabaret' that when the opportunity to work alongside these incredibly talented students arose I jumped at the chance to repeat the experience! Chris Lewis is also an incredible Musical Director. Once we sat dAltown and discussed our plans for 'EVITA' it became clear that it would be a challenge but also an opportunity to tell the story of Eva Peron in a slightly different manner. '
