Shropshire music-fan publishes book in honour of late blues musician, B.B. King

Lifelong music-fan, Richard Booth, of Strefford, Shropshire, has published a book on the late blues musician, B.B. King, who was ranked No. 6 in Rolling Stone’s ‘100 greatest guitarists of all time’ and is often referred to as ‘the most influential blues musician’, earning him the nickname "The King of the Blues."

Richard Booth, works as the ILT (Information Learning Technology) Coordinator at Shrewsbury College alongside dedicating his life to the music industry, of which he has been involved in since leaving school in 1988. He has produced fanzines for a number of bands and in recent years has run websites and undertaken tour photography for well-known artists, including, Slash, Elton John, and KISS. His photographs have been published in music books and magazines throughout the world.

His book, which stemmed from a life-long fascination and appreciation of B.B. King, has gone on sale at Amazon today (WEDNESDAY).

Richard’s devotion to B.B. King led him to produce and run the UK BB King fan club, interacting with fans worldwide and with Mr King himself.

Mr Booth, said: “I have run the UK fan club for over 27 years and fan site bluesboyking.com for over 16 years. In that time I have had the pleasure of meeting B.B many times and attending many shows here in the UK and Europe, reviewing them and taking photos for the fan site. The last UK show at the Royal Albert Hall in London, in June, 2011, was captured on film and one of my photos from that show has pride of place on the wall inside the prestigious venue at the famous stage door.

“I began writing about B.B. and his amazing life back in 2002. In 2006, I gave B.B a copy of the privately bound book.

“Sadly Mr King passed away in May, 2015 and at the end of July 2015, I was offered a publishing deal and this saw one of my long-term dreams, to have the book published as a tribute to B.B, become a reality. I added a number of updated chapters and it was officially released on September 16, 2015, the date of B.B.'s 90th birthday.

“The book titled: B.B. King - A Life of Blues, pays tribute to the great man and provides further insight into his journey, legacy and lasting place in musical and cultural history. With rare and unseen photos, full discography and heartfelt tributes from band members, family, friends, his peers and fellow musicians.

“Over the years, B.B. and I became good friends and this book is my lasting tribute to the King of the Blues.”

Proceeds from the sales of the book will be donated to the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center in Indianola, Mississippi, where B.B. has his final resting place.
