Shrewsbury Town players relax at county hotel ahead of FA Cup game

Shrewsbury Town players have become honorary members of a newly refurbished hotel leisure club and spa and have been using the venue to prepare for their FA Cup fourth round against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club manager Micky Mellon was invited to officially open the refurbished Inspiration Leisure Club and Orchid Rooms Spa at The Mercure Shrewsbury Albrighton Hall Hotel last month.

Now players have become honorary members of the hotel club on Ellesmere Road and were this week using its facilities to prepare for the Emirates FA Cup game against Sheffield Wednesday which will take place on Saturday (Jan 30) at 3pm.

It will be the first time Shrewsbury Town has faced the Owls since the League Cup 28 years ago.

In a break from the usual training session at the club’s New Meadow Stadium, players went to the gym, swam in the pool and relaxed in the hotel’s spa and leisure facilities.

Mr Mellon said: “We are delighted to have a home draw. Hopefully lots of fans will come down to see us take on a team in the league above.

“Sheffield Wednesday is a big club with a well established history and I’m sure they will give us a good game.

“It will be a challenge for us but one we are looking forward to.

“We have been doing our best to prepare for the game so that we can put on a good performance.

“It’s important for the players to feel calm and focused so they can play the game and not the occasion so we are very grateful to all the staff at Albrighton Hall Hotel for helping them to achieve this.”

Hotel general manager Jennifer Sibbald-Wall said: “We wish Shrewsbury Town the best of luck for the big game on Saturday.

“Many of our staff are big fans of the club and we are sure the whole town will be cheering them on.

“It would be fabulous to see them get through to the next round.”

Jennifer, Operations Manager Kordula Griffiths and the Leisure and Spa Manager Lorraine Markley all have tickets for the game and will be cheering the team on this Saturday.
