Shrewsbury Colleges Group extends its travel routes across county by a third

Shrewsbury Colleges Group has invested in its bus links to improve transport for its students across the county, adding a new Newport route to its offer.

The Group, which was created when Shrewsbury Sixth Form College and Shrewsbury College merged in August, now operates six subsided routes across the whole county.

The Newport route, which is new for September 17, stops at Buntingsdale, Hinstock, Newport - Stafford Road, Newport – High Street, Roden, Edgmond, High Ercall, Crudgington, London Road, The Abbey and Barker Street – to serve all three College campuses.

Samantha Jones, Group Student Services Support Manager, said: “Shrewsbury Colleges Group is now the biggest college in the county and it’s important that we are offering students across Shropshire and beyond as much help in getting here as possible in order to study one of our varied programmes.

“As a group, we pay around £100,000 a year to the bus companies to help run these bus services and financial travel support is available through student services to help families with an income of £26,000 or less.

“We have increased its bus services by over a third and introduced a Bridgnorth route earlier in the year, which stops at  Much Wenlock, Cressage and Cross Houses before stopping at all three campuses. We now run six routes in total from Telford, Ludlow, Powys, Whitchurch/Market Drayton and the new routes Bridgnorth and Newport.”

Erin Holley, 19, from Shawbury, studying A Level Biology, catches the bus to College. She said: “The College is great and I really enjoy my studies here. I get a very early bus to College but it really hasn’t caused me any difficulties.”
