The next generation of workers

A Shropshire company coming to the aid of job seekers and employers is also smoothing the career path of the next generation of workers by taking on eight new apprentices.

DM Recruitment has offices in Shrewsbury, Stafford and Welshpool and is committed to ensuring youngsters get the best possible start to their working life by providing them with invaluable work experience.

The eight new starters have been sourced by the company with the help of SBC Training and will strengthen and support the existing teams at the firm’s offices.

Stuart Danks, Managing Director of DM Recruitment, said: “Our role as a company is to put people into work, providing services for those seeking employment, and the employers looking to expand their workforce. As our apprentices start their careers they will be helping others to start theirs.

“A confident, enthusiastic and capable workforce for the future is very important to us as a firm and we believe today’s teenagers are tomorrow’s leaders.

“This apprenticeship scheme is an opportunity for us to develop the talent that is out there by giving youngsters the experience of on-the-job training with a successful company - there really is nothing better to learning a job than to actually do it.”

Two of the apprentices taken on by DM Recruitment are Jamie Dockerty, 19, who is working at the company’s Welshpool office and Tilly-Mae Smith, 17, who is at the firm’s head office in Shrewsbury.

Jamie said: “My job entails speaking to businesses across North Wales to see if they need any job help now or in the future. Speaking to people is my strength and I feel I achieved more in my first three weeks at DM Recruitment than I could ever have imagined.

“I love the engagement with people, communication is so important and I particularly like the face-to-face meeting we have. It really develops confidence.”

Tilly-Mae said: “I’m working as a resourcer for DM Recruitment’s Resources Team and am really enjoying the experience.

“My job is centred on general administration and customer service; things like booking people in for registration and helping the Resources Team find staff for clients.

“I am really loving it, would like to stay on for the long-term after my apprenticeship and work through to management. I see my career path more in services and resources rather than sales and this opportunity is going to be of great benefit towards qualifications and achieving that goal.”
