Longnor Flower Festival - Sat 22nd-Sun 23rd June

It’s all now crystal clear at St Mary’s Church, Longnor, where volunteers have been tackling the delicate job of cleaning the historic windows ready for the big Flower Festival this coming Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June.

Church Warden Annabel Warburg said: “The old windows appear not to have been cleaned in living memory. Now, thanks to our team of volunteers they are crystal clear and sparkling again – perfect for showing off our flowers. The church is so much brighter now.

“It’s been a labour of love to prepare our lovely ancient church for the Flower Festival,” added Annabel. “Some of the stained glass panels are very fragile.”

The Longnor Flower Festival will have a musical theme. Children from Longnor village school have created artwork inspired by music, and local musicians will entertain visitors throughout the weekend, with the Canto Chamber Choir singing at 12 noon on Sunday. Songs of Praise will be held on Sunday at 5pm and everyone is welcome.

St Mary’s Church dates back to 1275 and its west window frame is a unique wooden replica of the stone mullioned east window.

Entrance to the Longnor Flower Festival is FREE. There will be tea, coffee and homemade cake stalls. Also plants and new village postcards and notelets for sale.
