Hickory’s Smokehouse Team Have Egg-citing Plans For Easter As They Aim To Raise £5k For Local Children’s Charity…

The team from Shrewsbury’s favourite Southern style smokehouse, Hickory’s, have been working hard during the last lockdown to raise as much as possible for Free Radio’s Cash For Kids Charity.

In one final push to top their £5k target, General Manager Damian Harries and his team have announced a fun-packed fundraising schedule for the whole family over Easter Weekend.

Along with a super-sweet raffle to win an epic 10kg Easter Egg, the team have also organised an exciting treasure hunt around The Quarry on Good Friday.

Families are being encouraged to call at the restaurant from 10am – 4pm on Good Friday, pick up a special map (£1 donation) and then set off on the hunt around the park to collect letter clues that will eventually spell a secret word.

Every child taking part will receive a prize and all proceeds will go to Cash For Kids.

As a company, Hickory’s adopted Cash For Kids as their national charity five years ago and since we entered the first lockdown last March, the team have raised just over £200k to help local families across the midlands and north west. Along with their stellar fundraising efforts, the team have also cooked and delivered over 2,000 meals to families who have been hardest hit by the pandemic.

Hickory’s Shrewsbury General Manger Damian said: ‘The whole team here in Shrewsbury have really got the behind the fundraising initiative and we’ve all been super-proud to do our bit.’

‘Over the past couple of months we have been selling S’mores from the venue each weekend and some of the team have taken part in an 950 mile walk, which is the equivalent of walking from Texas to Tennessee. All of our colleagues from across the business have been involved in some way and its really helped to keep us all motivated as well as raise some much needed funds for a very worthwhile charity.’

Cash For Kids Midlands are a grant-giving charity who help thousands of families who need it most across the region. Their mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children who are affected by poverty, illness, neglect or have additional needs.

Since the start of lockdown on March 2020, Hickory’s have already raised over £200,000 via a combination of fundraising activities and regular donations from their iconic Campfire Marshmallow desserts.

Damian said that with this final push the team are hoping to top the £250k mark by the time their 12 sites re-open their outdoor areas on 12th April.

‘The whole company are determined to smash the quarter of a million mark before we reopen. Everyone is doing their bit and with the ongoing support of our wonderful guests we are on course to reach our target and help as many families as we possibly can.’
