Festival over the moon with Write Here sponsorship

Organisers of a popular Shrewsbury writing competition are over the moon about sponsorship from a town business.

Specialist pen shop Write Here, in Shrewsbury High Street, has agreed to provide prizes for the 2016 Belle Vue Arts Festival writing competition, which this year takes the theme of  ‘Space’.

John Hall, owner of the shop, said that he was always looking for ways to encourage people to take up creative writing.

“Although we live in a digital age, pens are still extremely popular and we are happy to get involved in this arts event. It enjoys huge support from Shrewsbury people of all ages and is a firm fixture in the town’s programme of excellent festivals now,” he said.

Lottie Clark, one of the festival’s organisers, said that last year’s writing competition attracted hundreds of entries.

She said: "I'm thrilled to have Write Here sponsoring the prizes - the shop is a great resource for writers and artists in Shrewsbury. We are really looking forward to reading the entries and how people interpret the theme of ‘Space’.”

The competition has three categories, with Write Here providing fountain pens   as prizes in the children’s and the ‘flash fiction’ sections which is for stories of less than 200 words. There are book tokens on offer to the other winners.

Belle Vue Arts Festival, which is now in its 13th year and is organised by volunteers and artists, runs from June 4 to 18th. A festival launch event will be held on April 29, with a talk from the Shropshire Astronomical Society.

Full details for the writing and other competitions will be found the festival's website - www.bellevueartsfestival.co.uk - in the section 'Get Involved'. The deadline for entries in the writing competition is midnight, Friday May 20.
