College Marketing Team Gains National Recognition

The Shrewsbury College marketing team was this week awarded a prestigious silver award at the national College Marketing Network Awards for their innovative summer recruitment campaign.

The campaign, featuring current and former students from the College, posed the question: “What’s Stopping You?” encouraging people of all ages to consider undertaking courses at the College.  This is the third national marketing award the team has received.

The College is Shrewsbury’s largest vocational course provider, offering over 350 courses ranging from diplomas to university level courses.  “We are delighted that the campaign achieved its objectives with overall recruitment numbers increasing versus last year”, comments Charmian Turner, Marketing and Admissions Team Leader.  “We were very pleased to be able to use real-life case studies featuring many successful former students of the College who are now embarking on impressive careers.”

“Our research suggested that many people want to study but feel there are reasons which are holding them back.  However with even a little help and advice from our College staff, most barriers can be overcome, opening the path to skills and educational opportunities which can change their lives,” adds Charmian Turner.

Rachel Smith, chief executive of the College Marketing Network commented: “The judges saw this as a strong campaign, with clearly stated and SMART objectives, which was supported by a thorough and detailed submission. The campaign was very well explained, involved a creative range of activities and met its objectives while coming in under budget.”

“I am very proud of our marketing team’s achievements,” comments Lyn Surgeon, Principal and CEO of Shrewsbury Colleges Group. “They have worked hard in this campaign to ensure that the success of our current and former students is used to inspire the next generation to enrol and fulfil their potential.”

Alex Hankinson-King, campaign co-ordinator at the College adds: “The team worked in a highly focused way on producing this broad-reaching, creative campaign.  We are delighted that it was so successful in getting our message out to such a large proportion of the local population and that it encouraged so many people to apply for courses at the College. It is great to get this national recognition for what has been a very rewarding and fun campaign to work on.”
