College Childcare students arrange special visit from Santa for pre-schoolers

Childcare students from Shrewsbury Colleges Group welcomed the Little Explorers Pre-school for a Christmas party at the London Road Campus last week.

Twelve children aged between two and four attended the festive event. The students had arranged lots of activities including Christmas crafts, handmade story sacks, a snow machine and an exciting visit from Santa.

The Christmas collaboration between the College and pre-school was a good opportunity for students to see their resources being used in the indoor and outdoor environments that they had created for the little visitors. Some students even baked cakes and gingerbread for the children’s snack time.

Shelly Hurdley, Manager of Little Explorers Pre-School said: “It was amazing. The children had a wonderful time and it was very clear lots of hard work and preparation had gone into the morning. “

All of the effort goes towards achieving their qualification in Childcare, with students being observed for their planning, implementation of activities and interaction with children.

Childcare teacher, Sturcha Wynn, said: “A lot of planning went into this festive session, which is exactly what they would need to do when working in a real life childcare setting.

“The students arranged all the activities and created a very sensory experience for the children. We were delighted with the opportunity this gave the students to engage and interact with children and observe and share good practice.”

To complete the day, each child get to take home a present from Santa.
