Charity to host falls prevention events in across the county

A Shropshire charity is heading back out on the road in 2023 to help people get active and reduce their risk of falling.

Community Resource is hosting its first ‘Functional Fitness MOT’ event of the year in Shrewsbury on Friday 20 January before taking it to Bridgnorth, Newport and Church Stretton.

The programme is also taking place in Bishop’s Castle on Wednesday 22 February and is being run by SpArC Bishop’s Castle Leisure Centre.

The events are open to anyone aged over 60 and are free to attend, however booking is essential.

Activities include one-to-one fitness tests measuring strength, balance, flexibility and stamina. There is also information on how to reduce the risk of falling - with a demonstration of how to get up from the floor after a fall – plus a free taster exercise class.

Sue Chalk, Head of Service at Community Resource, said: “We understand the beginning of the year is a difficult time to feel motivated, but it’s still so important to find out what your fitness levels are and get the advice you need to keep active throughout the year.

“We’re also encouraging anyone who is looking for support on how to reduce their risk of falling to get in touch and book a place.”
