Thousands of people will pop the big question to their partners this Christmas - but not on the day itself!
A survey of 10,000 people in the UK, published by events agency Chillisauce, showed that 31 per cent of people polled are set to propose on Christmas Eve.
The number planning to propose on Christmas Day was just seven per cent, with two per cent on Boxing Day.
Hannah Hall, of The Wroxeter Hotel near Shrewsbury, said proposals make their peak in the Winter months.
She said: “Christmas can be such a romantic time and usually filled with family and friends - so perfect for a proposal, so it is no surprise to us that around 100,000 proposals are expected over the festive period in 2016.
“We love meeting all the couples who have celebrated their engagement over the festive period.
“They are always buzzing with ideas and it’s lovely to hear their proposal stories from Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve or any of the days in between.
“Couples are often keen to start planning straight away which is why we love to hold our first wedding open day so early in the year.”
The survey, published in November, showed that 18 per cent were planning to propose on New Year’s Eve - meaning that by January 2 nearly half of the people polled will be engaged if they get a yes!
The Wroxeter Hotel will open its doors along with its sister venue, nearby Morrells Wood Farm, for couples to enjoy casual viewings on January 2 and January 8 from 12pm to 4pm.
“The first wedding event of the year always has a wonderful atmosphere,” added Mrs Hall.
“Everybody is still filled with the festive spirit and on a high from the New Year celebrations. We like to show them everything we have to offer - from festival weddings to woodland weddings, vintage themes and of course the farm weddings.”
Shropshire Farm Weddings was crowned Best Newcomer at the Wedding Industry Awards in November and will go to the national awards final in London on January 12, 2017.
“All of the staff will also be in a very merry mood at the beginning of January, hoping that we will be crowned the national winner, so we are sure the open days will be a lovely next step for all of the newly engaged couples in the West Midlands.”
