Book tickets to Shrewsbury bonfire event in advance, say organisers

People are being reminded to book their tickets in advance for one of Shropshire’s biggest fireworks displays, as only limited places will be available on the day.

The annual charity fireworks and bonfire spectacular is due to take place on November 3 at the Greenhous West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury, and organisers are expecting a big turn-out.

There will be two fireworks displays - one starting at 6.15pm and one at 7.45pm to allow families with young children to leave earlier if they want to.

Thousands of people attended the event last year, which had the same formula, and organisers declared it a big success.

Tickets are selling well for this year’s event and are cheaper in advance.

Showground manager, Jan Forrest, said: “We are encouraging people to get their tickets in advance for two reasons - firstly they are cheaper, and secondly there will be limited availability on the day because we don’t want the site to get too busy which could affect people’s enjoyment.

“Gates will open at 4pm, the bonfire will be lit one hour later and the first fireworks display will take place at 6.15pm.

“This will be sound-sensitive with more colour and less bang - ideal for small children.

“The second display starts at 7.45pm and this will be the usual loud blockbuster event that you normally associate with Bonfire Night. Anyone attending the first show will be more than welcome to stay for the second.

“There will also be a children’s sparkler area which is free to visit, a great funfair and a live music stage, along with a variety of food stands.

“It’s always a popular night and we think we have something for everyone, with plenty of free parking available on the showground.

“All proceeds will go to the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society’s Rural Charity which ensures the showground can continue as a vital part of our community, as well as allowing us to make donations throughout the year to various groups and organisations.”

Advance tickets are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for children and £25 for a family ticket which would admit two adults and three children.

Children aged 5 and under are free.
