Shropshire Disability Network urgently requires an Honorary Secretary.

At a recent Management Meeting Dave Hewetson who has been Secretary of Shropshire Disability Network announced he would not be seeking re-election at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday 13th September 2012.

Dave has been Secretary for over 3 years now and has seen SDN through the difficult years of setting up and to recently gaining full charitable status. “All at SDN appreciate the valuable work Dave has done, and Dave will be greatly missed by all”said Sonia Roberts Chair at a recent meeting held.

We would expect the new post holder to become a member of SDN. The role involves attending monthly Management meetings (held in or near Shrewsbury) to take minutes etc. The post also includes the following activities:

  • Booking and checking out suitable venues for meetings, across Shropshire including Telford and Wrekin.
  • Attending monthly management meetings as well as quarterly membership meetings.
  • Emailing information (agenda, minutes etc) to members prior to our quarterly meetings
  • Emailing our membership details of other events ie fund-raising events/debates that we may be holding.
  • Working as part of a team.

Ideally applicants should be a team player. They should have good communication skills and want to be supportive of the work of our organisation. So if you have a passion to help those with a disability, long term condition, carers and families thereof and want to help our organisation move forward, we would like to hear from you.

Sonia Roberts Chair said “we would consider a job share for this post as ideally we need both a Secretary and Assistant Secretary. We understand the needs of those with a disability and are willing to look at any offers of help coming forward. These volunteer posts can be very fulfilling and rewarding to people across the community with or without disability, carers, retired people. We would like to hear from you if you feel you can offer time and skills to take on these roles”

Our Annual General meeting is on Thursday 13th September at Trinity Centre, Meole Brace Shrewsbury 1.30pm. As well as the essentials of the AGM we will explore Personal Independence Payments with  Rob Price from Benefits Options Team from Shirehall, Shrewsbury. Full details can be found at
