Orchestras Live Return to Ludlow Assembly Rooms

Ludlow Assembly Rooms will welcome one of the UK’s finest chamber orchestras, the London Mozart Players, back to South Shropshire on Thursday 27 September at 7.30pm. The event is supported by Orchestras Live and follows a sell-out concert by Academy of Ancient Music in March.  The LMP is known as one of the UK’s finest chamber orchestra and attracts international acclaim. Their programme will explore the seasons through Vivaldi’s Four Seasons , Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires and will open with Purcell’s Chaconne, a work based on a 16th-century dance form imported to Spain and Italy from Latin America.

Founded by Harry Blech in 1949 as the UK’s first chamber orchestra, the London Mozart Players are regarded as one of the UK’s finest ensembles. Under the leadership of Music Director Gérard Korsten, the orchestra is internationally renowned for its outstanding live performances and CD recordings, and is particularly known for its definitive performances of the core Classical repertoire. The LMP also plays an active part in contemporary music, giving many world premières and commissioning new works, especially by British composers. In recent years, the LMP has premièred new works by composers including Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Tarik O’Regan, Sally Beamish, Cecilia McDowall, Lynne Plowman, and Fraser Trainer.

The concert in Ludlow will feature acclaimed violinist Chloë Hanslip as soloist and conductor.  Hanslip’s recording of John Adams’s Violin Concerto five years ago secured her status as one of the most talented and intelligent young musicians around.  Rachel Buchanan, Director at the venue in Mill Street said “We’re proud to present musicianship of Chloe’s Hanslips’ calibre on stage in Ludlow and we’re grateful to Orchestra’s Live for enabling us to present such a prestigious event”.

Tickets are priced at £18.50 (concessions £17.50) and can be purchased at www.ludlowassemblyrooms.co.uk or on 01584 878141.
