Could Shrewsbury once again reap the benefits of a direct rail link to London?
On Wednesday at Prime Ministers Questions, MP for Shrewsbury Daniel Kawczynski urged Mr Cameron to recognise Shrewsbury’s position as the only county town in England without a direct rail link to the capital.
He said: “When the new rail franchises are apportioned in August, will the Prime Minister use his good office to ensure that the Government do everything possible to ensure that Shrewsbury is connected to our capital city?”
Mr Cameron agreed and said the Shrewsbury MP was right to say that the franchises offered opportunities for investment.
“I am sure that the rail operators and others will listen very closely to what he has said today,” the Prime Minister added.
Shrewsbury previously had a direct link to the capital city thanks to the Wrexham and Shropshire train company, which sadly ceased operation in January.
