Cinema experience with a difference

People who love films, social evenings and friendly surroundings are urged to come and discover the Shrewsbury Film Society, which is preparing to launch a second season of cinema at the Hive Music and Media Centre. Launched by three friends and dedicated film enthusiasts last year, the Society was a huge success with its offering of great priced cinema - and season two promises an even more extensive selection of current and classic films from across the world!

The Society will kickstart their second season on Friday September 28, with Italian romantic comedy, Bread and Tulips, which charts the adventures of a housewife hitchhiking to Venice. The following film, Sound It Out, will provide a moving documentary about the very last surviving vinyl record shop in Teesside, taking place on October 12.

There will be a stunning film screened every fortnight on a Friday evening at the popular venue in the heart of Shrewsbury, with other highlights of the autumn including The Well-digger's Daughter on October 26 - a sweeping historical epic set in pre World War 1 French countryside. Woody Allen fans will enjoy his comedy Midnight in Paris, which is scheduled to be shown on Friday December 21 - and films will continue every fortnight right through until April 2013.

Habib Malik-Mansell, Marketing Assistant at the Hive said “The Shrewsbury Film Society proved to fill a gap in the market when they launched last year, for the screening of great films in comfortable, friendly surroundings. They aim to offer a diverse mix of cinema and one of their most important aims, is to offer access to cinematic experiences at an affordable price. Entry to films costs only £5 on the evening - or people can join as a member of the Society, paying only £35 for the opportunity to see the entire season should they wish!”

Further details of the Shrewsbury Film Society, including the full-length season, can be found by visiting where people can also see feedback from season one. All screenings take place at the Hive on 5 Belmont, SY1 1TE and season two will commence in September. Call 01743 234970.
