For most Shropshire businesses, the thought that they might be the victim of cyber-crime is probably not a realistic one – after all, that only happens to large corporations who have something worth stealing, doesn’t it? Sadly the answer is ‘no’!
With more cyber-attacks being reported, the pressure for organisations, of all sizes, to keep their data secure is now a major issue, not just for the security and reputation of their business, but for the protection of their customers and staff.
However, uncertainty, or lack of understanding, of what steps to take to reduce the threats, has meant that many business owners are unprepared on how to improve their procedures and processes when it comes to online safety.
Shrewsbury business group BNI, who meet weekly at Shrewsbury Town Football Club, are hosting a Cyber-Security seminar on Wednesday, March 16, in the Sovereign Bar, at the Greenhous Stadium, from 9am until 12 noon, to highlight the problems organisations across the County are now experiencing, and will explain the precautions they should be taking against them.
Besides showing a live demonstration of how easy it is for someone to hack into your system, the event, which is free to attend, will cover:
• What an attacker see’s in you. e.g. Ransomware, corporate espionage, malware hosting
• The attacker’s tactics and methodologies.
• How an attacker carries out the reconnaissance, exploitation and post exploitation.
• Best practices for prevention and detection.
• Cyber insurance
As more businesses are making greater use of technology, it is anticipated that there will be significant interest in this event which will highlight the increasing vulnerability to digital threats and the resources required to keep companies safe.
Early booking is essential. Refreshments will be provided.
