LD big charity (1)

A group of local musicians – including four Shrewsbury Hospital medics – are putting on a free evening of live music in aid of the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, taking place on Saturday 12th July at The Wheatsheaf, Frankwell.

The Big Charity Gig, hosted in the venue’s large marquee, promises a lively, friendly night of dancing, classic hits, and community spirit – all in support of a cause that’s vital to the people of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales.

The event was the brainchild of Christian Leoci, drummer in The Average Dad Band, who brought the idea to life with support from fellow musicians and medics.

“It all started as a simple idea – just getting some friends together to play music and raise money for something that really matters,” said Chris. “We’ve all been affected by cancer in some way, and Lingen Davies does such important work locally. It felt like the right time to bring people together for a good night – and a good cause.”

The event brings together four diverse acts:

18:00 – Papa Nappy Soul Revue: A long-awaited reunion of the much-loved soul band with full brass section.
19:00 – The Untamed Shrews: An all-female powerhouse playing crowd-pleasing hits, with two local medics in the line-up.
20:00 – The Average Dad Band: Local dads (and doctors) delivering a solid set of dad rock and Britpop classics.
21:00 – Anonymous: One of Shrewsbury’s most exciting young bands, performing a mix of originals and covers.

Entry is free, and donations to Lingen Davies will be encouraged throughout the evening. All money raised will go toward helping the charity continue its essential work supporting cancer patients and funding life-changing services and equipment.

The Wheatsheaf’s marquee offers a large, covered space with room to dance, enjoy the music, and make it a memorable community night – rain or shine.
