'Toddle Waddle' By Shrewsbury Nursery Children In Aid Of Barnardo's

Babies and toddlers at a Shrewsbury nursery are set to ‘toddle waddle’ half a mile to raise money for a children’s charity.

Young children at Bluebell Day Nursery and Out of School Club in Castlefields will don their wellies and high visibility jackets for the sponsored challenge on Tuesday 15th July 2014.

In a route that will take them along Sydney Avenue by the River Severn and then up through the streets of Castlefields to the shops and back to New Park Road, they are hoping to raise lots of money for Barnardo’s, the leading children’s charity in the UK.

Nursery manager Kerry Owen said the children were already excited about taking part and would be taking home sponsor forms in the next few days.

“Across the UK, Barnado’s does such fantastic work to help the most vulnerable children, which is why we chose to support it with our Toddle Waddle,” she said.

“While our very young children and babies don’t really understand, a lot of the older ones do understand that we are doing this to help other children and are really keen to take part.

“Half a mile isn’t very far for an adult but for our babies and toddlers, it will be a challenge for their little legs so we are hoping to raise lots of money for their efforts.”

Miss Owens said there would also be a cake sale held on the day, with several parents already pledging to bring in their homemade baked goods to help.

“It is important to us here at Bluebell’s to get parents involved in the nursery and what their children are doing and we’ve had a great response already to both the Toddle Waddle and cake sale.”

Bluebell Day Nursery and After School Club first opened in 2002 and caters for all children aged from three months to 11 years. With nine full and part time staff members, it currently cares for 42 babies and toddlers and a further 40 after school club children.

It is part of the Hazle’s Farm Childcare group, which also includes the original Hazles Farm Day Nursery in Shawbury and Sunflower House Children’s Centre, Lodge Montessori, The Mulberry Bush, Fun Factory Out Of School Club and Children’s House Montessori in Shrewsbury.
