Smoke & Pickle obtains Ocado listing

The Smoke & Pickle Food Company of Shropshire, a Shrewsbury based company, is to supply Ocado.com with the company’s range of award winning products. The official launch of Smoke & Pickle products by Ocado is planned for early October 2014.

Ocado is the world’s largest independent online retailer, delivering groceries and more to 73% of households in the UK. Ocado is powered by technology designed in-house and customer orders are fulfilled by two fully automated warehouses in Hertfordshire and the West Midlands.

Sara Curtis, owner of Smoke & Pickle, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be asked to supply our products to Ocado. This opportunity represents an important step in the expansion of our business and one which gives us an excellent route into a new independent retail market. It also means that we will be able to employ more local people and increase our procurement of ingredients, products and services from local companies”.

Co-owner Will Curtis added. “Our independent retail network in England and Wales has been expanding steadily over the last three years and the agreement to supply Ocado will provide the opportunity to supply a significant number of new customers by way of the world’s leading online grocery retailer.”

Smoke & Pickle, now in its third year of full production, supplies its products to nearly 300 high quality delicatessens, farm shops, food halls, garden centres, cafes and other independent retailers and distributors throughout the UK. The company’s products include Ready Meals, Soups, Marinades and Sauces.

The company’s SALSA approved operation is based at the Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre in Shrewsbury. This is a state of the art, purpose built facility for food manufacturers. The Food Centre was the brainchild of Shropshire Council, which also manages the facility. As a result of the Ocado listing, Smoke & Pickle intends to enter into an agreement to lease an additional production unit at the Food Centre.
