Small Business Saturday declared all round success

On Saturday 7th December small businesses from across Shropshire came to Shrewsbury for a new initiative named Small Business Saturday. Local firms set up stalls in the town square to sell their products to the public with the aim to encourage people to think local and independent when making their purchases in the run up to Christmas.

The event was part of an initiative supported by the Government, UK Chamber of Commerce and the UK Federation of small businesses to celebrate what small business of all kinds do, both on a local and national level. The idea of Small Business Saturday originated in the United States, and has worked well in supporting small and local firms.

Daniel said:
“Small businesses are the key to unlocking growth in our economy and providing jobs. I am doing all I can to encourage Shrewsbury and Atcham firms to look for opportunities to expand and export, It is great that the people of Shropshire are so keen to support local firms.”

Lara Gibson a stall holder at the event said:
“It was a fantastic day in terms of footfall, making new contacts, getting my product to a new customer base.... And financially.  Hoping that this will be an annual event, as it gives small businesses like my own access to a normally unreachable opportunity.”
