Shrewsbury School dads pedalling from Land’s End to John O’Groats

Shrewsbury School were delighted to welcome ‘Six Fat Dads’ this morning (looking remarkably svelte) as they dropped in for a cuppa this morning en route from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Pedalling hard on Day 4 of their mammoth journey were Martin Speed, father of current Shrewsbury pupils Will, Charlie and Bertie, their uncle Peter Botham, Nigel and Ben Stubley, and Ian Heap and Philip Horsnall, whose sons  Oscar and Ollie left Shrewsbury School this summer.

The Fat Dads Team have been cycling together for many years, although this is their longest journey to date. They are raising money for six charities – Derbyshire Community Foundation, Derby Breast Cancer Support, Derbyshire/Leicestershire/Rutland Air Ambulance, Ashgate Hospice, NeuroCare and Help the Hospices – and have already received donations totalling almost £30,000.

They are currently on schedule to complete the journey in just nine days. “We’re all due into work on Monday morning,” they said cheerfully as they downed the last swig of tea, climbed back on their bikes and set off for into north Shropshire. Only another 567 miles to go!
