Shrewsbury preparing for the Children’s Week

Word games, a hand writing competition and a quill pen demonstration will be part of a week-long celebration at a Shropshire shop this month.

Write Here, on Shrewsbury’s High Street, is holding a children’s pen week from May 20 to mark an expansion of its business.

The award-winning shop has recently been refurbished and has increased the range of pens and writing equipment it has on offer.

“We may live in a digital age, but the art of handwriting is certainly not dead amongst any age group and there is a great deal of interest from younger customers,” said Write Here proprietor John Hall.

“The children’s week will encourage more children and teenagers to come in and try out some of our new pens and there will be a competition to find the neatest handwriting in various age categories.”

John explained that after nine successful years in business, Write Here had undergone a major facelift.

“We have changed the lay-out and decoration of the store to reflect increased customer interest in our pens.

“The shop is becoming known as a pen specialist, with sales in this sector increasing year on year - especially fountain pens.

“People come from throughout the Midlands and Wales to buy from us in Shrewsbury – and from all over the world thanks to our website,” John said.

The winners of the handwriting competition will receive a limited edition pen as a prize.
