Shrewsbury Acoustic Folkus Launch

After a long break without one, Shrewsbury has a new folk club starting up. Actually, an acoustic and folk club to be held at the Lion Hotel each Wednesday evening from 8:30 to 11:00.

The new club has been named ‘Shrewsbury Acoustic Folkus’ by organisers Adam Beresford-Browne, Richard Chaff, and BBC Radio folk programme presenter, Genevieve Tudor.

The launch night is Wednesday 11th September, with Raven Folk Club and Chester Folk Festival patrons “Full House” playing the guest slot.

“We are keen to attract some of Shropshire’s wonderful acoustic musicians and singers,” said Adam, “because they are at the heart of what we’re trying to achieve with the club”.

“Shrewsbury and the surrounding county has such a rich and diverse group of talented musicians,” Richard added, “and many play in pub sessions or at open mic’ nights, but these can be difficult places to showcase polished, concert performances.”

Shrewsbury Acoustic Folkus nights will have floor spots available for musicians and singers to arrive unannounced and register at 8 pm, then an evening of acoustic performances will be scheduled with a sympathetic audience so performers can feel really close to the people who have come to listen.

For the launch night, local artists Beth Prior, Rob Dunsford as well as Stuart, Steve and Richard from ‘This Way Up’ have been invited to play floor spots, but there will be plenty of space for other performers, so please do come along and register at 8 pm if you’d like to perform.

Audience entry fee is £3.50 per person, £2.50 for concessions. The Lion Hotel has two bars in the hotel lobby, both serving real ales.
