People’s Photography Competition 2013

Launched at this year’s Shrewsbury Flower Show, The People’s Prize Photography Competition, sponsored by camera specialists Jessop’s, aimed to encourage youngsters to get creative with their lenses, inspiring some fantastic results.

With the theme “Shropshire in Bloom,” budding young photographers aged 18 years and under let their creativity blossom and got snapping across the county in the hope their pictures would be shortlisted

The 50 chosen pieces were displayed at the Shrewsbury Flower Show, where visitors were asked to judge the entry they like the most.

Congratulations go out to 7 year old Adam Morris, from Ellesmere who won the junior section of the competition and 12 year old Flora Harris of Shrewsbury who took first prize for the seniors.

Ethan Homes from Newport and Hannah Mitchell from Shrewsbury were awarded second prize in the junior and senior competitions, while Heidi Clark and Charlotte Colman both from Shrewsbury, came third.

The winning entrants were presented with their prizes, images recreated onto canvas, by Jessops Store Manager Kieran Campbell.  The photographs are on display in the shop window in Mardol, Shrewsbury town centre.

Society Secretary Simon Badrock said: “We have had some amazing photos in this year’s competition which have really captured the beauty of Shropshire.

“It is clear we have a lot of artistic talent in the county and it’s important this is nurtured. Thanks to Jessop’s, these beautiful images can be appreciated by residents and visitors to the town centre even after the Shrewsbury Flower Show has taken place.  We are looking forward to hopefully running a similar competition at next year’s show which will be held on 8th and 9th August, so to all young photographers, have your cameras at the ready”
