Open Day at new home of TASTE Kitchen

An open day is to be held next week to showcase the best of locally produced food and drink at the brand new home of the TASTE Kitchen in Shrewsbury.

HEART of ENGLAND fine foods is holding the event on March 22, offering food and drink fans the chance to try and buy regional produce from across the Midlands at its new home in London Road.

HEFF is now based at Shrewsbury College, and has opened its TASTE Kitchen @ Origins restaurant as well as unveiling a larger, new look Local Food Store.

The airy and bright restaurant, is open and run by HEFF from 8am to midday daily, and offers a fine food dining experience Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday breakfast and lunch, will be the focus for the open day.

Chef Mark Riding will be cooking up a storm in the kitchens, which were part of the recent revamp of the London Road site, and offering visitors a series of tastings as well as the standard all day menu.

A number of HEFF producers will also be attending, offering delicious tastings, including Warwickshire-based Jumokeh with an array of chilli jams, Worcestershire's homemade pies from The Pie Creator and Shrewsbury-based Aroma Tea and Coffee.

Chief executive of HEFF, Karen Davies MBE, said: “We are launching a new all day menu on March 22, and thought it would be a great idea to combine the launch with an open day. We can introduce new customers to the TASTE Kitchen and welcome our loyal customers from our previous base at Battlefield to our new home at the same time as showcasing the very best local food and drink from our producer members at HEFF.

“As well as the new all day menu, we'll be unveiling our new Fizz and Fish Friday concept and visitors can also find out more about why our Sunday lunch really is the ultimate Sunday roast!

“Our new Local Food Store will also be open, it is much larger than the previous store and this means we are able to stock a much larger selection of produce from our members. Visitors to the open day will receive 10% discount when they shop in the Local Food Store.”

Visitors will also be able to find out more about the TASTE Kitchen Cookery School which offers a host of courses from pork pie making and bread baking to afternoon tea demonstrations and curry cooking sessions.

Free parking is available at The TASTE Kitchen and Local Food Store on the college site, next to the restaurant which also has reserved spaces for diners.
