Mayor Praises Shrewsbury Food Festival Organisers

The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Cllr Jon Tandy, today praised the organisers of Shrewsbury Food Festival for their hard work in making the event a success.

Thousands of people visited the Quarry over the weekend for the event which was opened by John Challis best known for playing Boycie, from Only Fools And Horses and the Mayor and Mayoress of Shrewsbury.

Around 130 exhibitors showed off their produced, along with celebrity chef demonstrations from Marcus Bean and Will Holland amongst others.

A Fringe event in Shrewsbury’s Market Hall also proved popular with a number of top Shrewsbury chefs and local Chocolatier Julia Wenlock demonstrating to audiences.

Speaking of the event Mayor Cllr Tandy said:

“Putting on an event of this size is no easy task, so I congratulate the organizers of the first Shrewsbury Food Festival.

“Having spoken to a number of exhibitors and festival visitors over the two days it was clear to see the event was a massive success and well supported from national names like Wenlock Water to up and coming local artisan producers.

“When people think of great food in Shropshire they may immediately think of Ludlow, but Shrewsbury is fast catching up with some fantastic restaurants for al tastes and budgets along with up and coming local food producers.”

“Shrewsbury’s Market Hall is a fine example of where to purchase great local produce and my time viewing demonstrations on Sunday was enjoyable.”

“I look forward to hearing about plans for next year’s event.”
