Local lady to follow in Whoopi Goldberg’s footsteps for Ghost the Musical

As an upcoming Shropshire theatre company’s production of ‘Ghost the Musical’ draws closer, one local lady is looking forward to treading the Theatre Severn boards for the first time in a very iconic role.

Diane Drummond, from Wellington, will be taking on the fabulous role of Oda Mae Brown in Get Your Wigle On’s next musical production, and can’t wait.  After seeing the company in their recent musical ‘Footloose’ this March, Diane saw how much fun the team were having and knew she just had to get involved.

Ghost seemed the perfect opportunity- with an incredible story based on the movie, a live local orchestra and lots of talented Shropshire performers, it was a chance for Diane to bring her 35 years of singing experience to her local area.  She’ll be following in the footsteps of one of her favourite movie stars, Whoopi Goldberg, who played Oda Mae Brown in the Oscar Award-Winning movie.

The musical centres around young couple Sam and Molly in a story of love and loss.  When Sam moves from one world to the next following his death, he’s desperate to find a way to talk to his fiancé, Molly, also struggling terribly with her loss.  He stumbles across the parlour of dodgy psychic Oda Mae Brown, and soon realises she has the ability to help.

Diane says: ‘ I love the movie, and when I heard about the auditions I was over the moon at the prospect of playing such a fun part.  Oda Mae gives me the chance to be naughty, phoney..but nice really!’ It’s been a challenging role for Diane to take on, but she’s relished the opportunity and has loved the rehearsal process.  ‘We have a lot of laughs at the studio- and tears too!  It’s a very moving production but ultimately is a story about love and loss, which hand in hand strike a chord with everyone.  It’s been great to offer skills to the group, but come away with more after working with the talent within the company.’

Oda Mae Brown will be Diane’s first role with Get Your Wigle On, and she’s looking forward to her next role in Legally Blonde the musical and other 2016 productions at Theatre Severn.

Fresh from the West End and with the iconic Unchained Melody, the famous ‘pottery wheel scene’ and up tempo fun musical numbers fused with emotional and moving moments, there’s something for everyone in the upcoming production which is running from 10th-13th June at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn.

Local theatre goers can pick up a ticket from just £12, with group discounts available.  Tickets are available from the Theatre Severn box office or by calling 01743281281.
