Local Firm Awarded Gold At Glittering Ceremony

A family-run firm of funeral directors is celebrating success after receiving recognition from the Mayor of Shrewsbury for its commitment to the community, and picking up two prestigious awards at the town’s annual evening ceremony.

Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors was awarded Gold, as well as crowned Overall Winner in 2014’s brand new Courtesy category, as part of the annual Mayor of Shrewsbury awards which took place on Wednesday 7th May 2014.

The event saw a wide of businesses and individuals from across Shropshire come together to recognise and celebrate achievements, as well as collect accolades for their services to the town and the wider community, and the firm’s recognition has also been praised by the town’s MP.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the results of this year’s awards,” explained Aubrey Kirkham, Director of Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors. “We care passionately about our business and do everything in our power to assist families in the area who have suffered a loss. We see this as a genuine and important part of our role, so to be nominated was a delight and to actually win one of just five Gold Awards presented, as well as be selected as the Overall Winner, was a truly humbling experience. ”

The firm’s courtesy was evidenced in its ongoing staff training and development, the introduction of new services committed to supporting families who have suffered a loss, as well as its investment to take on an eyesore building previously devastated by fire, with works already well underway at London Road to transform it into purpose-designed chapel of rest for families across the area.

Daniel Kawczynski MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, added: “This is immensely deserved for the hard work and superb service that Aubrey and his staff provide not only Shrewsbury but the surrounding communities in Shropshire and Wales. The purpose behind the Mayor’s Awards is to recognise the unsung heroes whose achievements have benefitted the town, which I feel fits him and his team to a tee. I’d like to thank him for his commitment and dedication in building up a business that offers a service Shrewsbury can be most proud of.”

Founded at the turn of the century, Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors saw the culmination of Aubrey’s 30-year vision to run a respectful and esteemed funeral service. The firm has introduced a number of dedicated initiatives, including access to support DVDs from internationally-renowned grief counsellors, as well as launching its Expression of Wishes form to give people the opportunity to make a note of things that are important to them, helping their families arrange the perfect ceremony.
