An Important Match at Monkmoor

The photo shows a critical moment in an important match between Shrewsbury Croquet Club and Pendle CC, in the first round (and for Shrewsbury, sadly, the last round) of the Secretary's Shield, a prestigious competition between clubs that have headed their local leagues in the previous season.

As West Midland winners last year (and for several consecutive years), Shrewsbury had high hopes of moving onwards and upwards with a team some of whose members had represented Shropshire, the week before, in the Inter-Counties doubles tournament in Brighton.

It was not to be:  in a close contest, Pendle won by 4 games to 3, although Brian Christmas and Sean Sheridan put their experience at the Inter Counties to good effect by winning the doubles in the morning.

Membership of the club has risen sharply this season, so if you want to get in before the maximum recommended number of members is reached, give Graham a call on 01939 233 196.
