Guess Jolly Shrewsbury Santa's Weight On Christmas Day In Aid Of Hope House Children's Hospice

After over-indulging on all the mince pies he was left last Christmas Eve, a Shropshire Santa Claus is looking to lose a few pounds before this year’s big day.

During his festive diet, Mark Hughes - or Father Christmas Hughes as he will be known to many for the next few weeks - from Jolly Good Vehicle Rentals in Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury, will be raising money for Hope House Children’s Hospice near Oswestry.

For a donation of just £2 per entry, Father Christmas Hughes is inviting the public to guess what his weight will be on Christmas Day as he makes his bid to shed the pounds.

And the winner will find themselves a very special present under their tree - a top of the range Mercedes car to drive around for the entire month of January.

Mr Hughes, who first started the Jolly Good Vehicle Rentals company in Wrexham seven years ago, said he was hoping to raise a large amount for charity.

“While it is obviously very important for Father Christmas to be a little on the plump size, it seems I overindulged a little on all the mince pies and Christmas cake left out for me last Christmas Eve,” he said.

“It would be no good if Father Christmas couldn’t fit down the chimneys so I knew it was time to take action and what better way to motivate myself than with a ‘sponsored slim’ of sorts.

“We chose Hope House Children’s Hospice because it provides such vital and wonderful care for youngsters with terminal or life-limiting illnesses and at Christmas the staff make a huge effort to make the time of year special for everyone there.

“You will be able to donate at any of our depots, including Shrewsbury and Wrexham and 100 per cent of the money we raise will go to Hope House.

“The winner who guesses the closest will get the keys to a brand new Mercedes with a full tank of fuel, which will be theirs to drive around for the whole of January 2014.”

Jolly Good Vehicle Rentals also has depots in Colwyn Bay in Conwy County, Deeside in Cheshire, Ely in Cambridgeshire and Chippenham in Wiltshire.
